The Oscar-winning actress has appeared in a Utah court as the civil trial begins over a ski accident which allegedly left a retired optometrist with brain damage.
The jury trial began on Tuesday as Terry Sanderson seeks compensation from Paltrow over the collision which occurred in 2016 at the luxurious Deer Valley ski resort in Utah.
Mr Buhler claimed that the actress collided with the 76-year-old because she was distracted while watching her children ski and the crash left him with permanent traumatic injuries. "She knew that skiing that way, blindly skiing down a mountain while looking up and to the side was reckless,” he said in his opening statement.
“Gwyneth Paltrow’s neglect and her conscious disregard for other people caused Terry Sanderson to suffer four broken ribs and brain damage,” he said.Mr Buhler offered a glimpse into the star’s lavish lifestyle and revealed on the day of the incident Paltrow had hired four private ski instructors to allow her family to “skip the lines” at a cost of “thousands of dollars a day”.
