Sad news for the city
A Nottingham gym owner says he "genuinely worries" about the future mental health of his members as the facility enters its final weeks of operation. The Castle Gym opened in 1981 and the building in which it is situated on Castle Boulevard was formerly owned by Nottingham City Council.
"I have fought this every step of the way and I got an injunction which meant that we have stayed here much longer than we otherwise would have done. I am going to try and keep the Castle Gym brand alive in some way, but we're now obviously where we are and I do genuinely worry about the mental health of some of our members.
"I am really going to miss this place, I tell you. I shall just have to go back to lifting weights at home like I did during the covid lockdowns. "We'll have the members' donations but we'll also be giving Emmanuel House other items for support. I was told the other day that they don't even have any socks for people for a change of clothing after they've come in and had a shower, so we can support them with stuff like that."
