Health experts warn that a hair-loss drug, minoxidil, could cause babies to develop ' werewolf syndrome ', characterized by excessive hair growth on the face and body. The warning was issued following a case in Spain where a baby developed thick hair growth on his back, legs, and thighs after being exposed to minoxidil used by his father.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has reported 11 cases of 'werewolf syndrome' in babies linked to minoxidil use, with the risk of heart and kidney issues among very young babies. Minoxidil, available over the counter as Regaine in the UK, will soon include warnings to keep young children away from treated areas. The drug was also involved in a lab mix-up, leading to at least 17 children in Spain developing 'werewolf syndrome' after accidentally ingesting it. Minoxidil increases blood flow to hair follicles, stimulating hair growth
