Jacqueline Docherty lied about her hair salon's turnover so she could claim the maximum £50,000

A hairdresser went bust after fraudulently claiming a £50,000 Covid bounce back loan during the pandemic.

In July 2020 Mrs Docherty applied for a £50,000 bounce back loan which was set up during the pandemic to allow small businesses to access finance more quickly. Companies could apply to borrow between £2,000 and up to 25 per cent of their turnover to a maximum of £50,000.In her application, Mrs Docherty stated that her turnover was £200,000, allowing her to claim the maximum £50,000 which was paid two months later.

The Insolvency Service has now banned the 60-year-old from being the director of a limited company for 10 years.
