The Orionids fill the night sky each year from late September to mid-November and this year they are expected to peak before dawn on Sunday and Monday (20 and 21 October)
The Orinoids meteor shower is expected to peak in the coming days — though a bright waning moon might make them difficult to spot.
This highly variable shower may result in anywhere from 20 to 60 visible meteors per hour under ideal viewing conditions, said NASA's Bill Cooke. This year’s peak activity happens on a night when the waning moon is 83% full and the shower lasts through until 22 November. Your eyes will be better adapted to seeing meteors if you are not checking your phone. “It ruins your night vision,” said Cooke.
