Creatures known as 'zonbi' will take over the city centre
On Saturday, October 28, horrifying monsters, creatures and demons known as 'zonbi' will take to the streets. The city centre will be filled with thunderous music as Katumba marches through the area with all ages welcome to watch the performance unfold.
The theme for this year's carnival is 'zonbi.' Instead of exploring the conventional depiction of‘ zombies, the theme delves into its origin, with the Kongo word for 'soul', 'nzambi', eventually transformed into 'zonbi' as enslaved Africans were taken to Haiti. The 'zonbi' theme symbolizes the eternal connection between the living and the departed.
