O'Connor has worked on the Halo franchise since 2004, authoring the first Bungie Weekly Update during Halo 2 when Bungie was still developing the Halo games. He then moved over to 343 Industries to continue working on the franchise when Bungie left Microsoft to work on Destiny in 2008 and has had an input on the story development, creative, and narrative aspects of many Halo projects, including the Halo TV show.
