Hamilton Accies manager John Rankin hopes his team can start the new year with a victory against Morton in honor of injured midfielder Ben Williamson.

Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin says his side will want to start the new year with a win for stricken team-mate Ben Williamson . The midfielder suffered serious injuries in a car crash last week and underwent an operation, ruling him out for the rest of the season. Accies now travel to Morton aiming to build on last week’s last-gasp derby win over Airdrie and Rankin hopes they can make it back-to-back wins to put a smile on the face of their colleague.

Rankin said: 'The boys will want to go and get a result for Ben on Saturday and he would want the boys to do it for him as well. 'My job and the players' jobs right now is to make sure we can be as supportive to him as possible and help him in the long run. “On the field, we just need to knuckle down to build some consistency in our results. 'We had a good result last weekend and we need to look to build on that. 'I feel we've got more consistency in performances over the last month or so. 'We began to play some decent football at times but I think, going week to week, we need more consistency.” Accies ran out 3-0 winners when the sides last met in October, having been knocked out the SPFL Trust Trophy by Ton two weeks prior. Rankin added: 'We played them back-to-back a few months ago. They won 1-0 in the cup and then we won 3-0 in the league, but both games were really tight until the latter stages. 'We know it will be a battle because we know what Morton are like at home, so we need to give them that respect. 'But we need to make sure our levels remain as high as they have been over recent weeks and hopefully that gets us a result.
