'Unbudgeted impact' raised at town board meeting
An influential committee has been told hard-up Pendle Council is 'spending a fortune' on the regeneration of Pendle Rise shopping centre.
Pendle councillors hope the area's new MP, Jonathan Hinder, can gain some flexibility from the new government over how cash to the borough is allocated. Nelson was awarded £25million in the deal and from that, Pendle Rise's redevelopment accounts of £10.3million of those funds, according to a board report.
"This is having a significant impact on the bottom line. We've taken half a million pounds of our reserves to meet these un-budgeted costs. It's not sustainable. The question about whether some capital funding can be converted to pay for transitional costs is really important. I support the board and would appeal to the government to support that, through our MP."Coun Whipp replied: "There is some contingency.
