Hundreds of angered staff members including senior doctors are now calling for a re-think on the plan, with a petition gathering over a thousand signatures.
Hardworking NHS staff in Glasgow are to be forced to use vending machines as bosses have announced that a 'vital' night cafe is to close permanently in a move to save cash.
Dr. Stuart McEwan, a Radiology Registrar who launched the petition three days ago, wrote: "The QEUH night cafe has been a vital resource for staff, patients, visitors and passing late night workers like paramedics and police since it’s inception during the pandemic. The range of food it serves and the ability to have a fresh coffee made for you at 2 in the morning has certainly improved my mood on night shifts over the past few years.
The petition has already gathered over 1700 signatures and dozens of supportive comments from staff and users of the cafe. "The Night Café originally opened in April 2020 as a temporary measure in response to the needs of staff at QEUH and the RHC during the Covid-19 pandemic.
