Pollsters warn the election race has not dramatically changed since Biden's exit

In Pennsylvania, Harris has turned a five-point deficit into just two points. In Georgia, Biden was down by 6 per cent – now Harris is losing by just 2 per cent. According to Professor Chris Edelson, a presidential scholar at American University, the situation is so fluid the only thing that’s clear is that Democrats were the underdogs last week.
But there are warning signs for Harris, notably her electoral record. After a bright start and strong debate performance, her 2020 presidential campaign collapsed amid reports of a lack of strategy and in-fighting among her staff. According to J Miles Coleman of the University of Virginia Centre for Politics, there is a big difference between running in a primary and the general election.
