The 39-year-old man was reported missing in Harrisburg months before his death in 1998.
The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office and a nonprofit organization identified a body recovered from the Susquehanna River more than 25 years ago as a 39-year-old man who was reported missing in Harrisburg months before his death, according to a press release.in Manor Township, Lancaster County, found the man’s body around 12:15 p.m. on April 18, 1998, the coroner’s office said.
“Significant postmortem changes” made the man’s body and face unrecognizable, according to the press release. The case would end up going cold despite several descriptions and a clay model of the man’s face being released to the public. In September 2023, the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office started to work with the DNA Doe Project, a nonprofit organization that works to name unidentified people using forensic genealogy. One of the man’s teeth was provided to the organization, which led to a potential match with a man who was reported missing from Harrisburg in 1998.
