ITV is set to broadcast a devastating documentary examining the murder of a young woman whose remains were discovered inside a suitcase. True Crime Presents is an anthology programme examining serious offences throughout the UK.
Since its debut last year, the true crime series has taken audiences inside genuine investigations and analyses of homicide cases alongside profiles of infamous criminals, establishing itself as essential viewing for true crime enthusiasts. This evening , ITV will present another profoundly disturbing instalment. Entitled True Crime Presents: Murder at the Grand Canal, audiences can watch the fifth episode in the series tonight at 9pm on ITV.
According to Radio Times, the documentary will immerse viewers in a chilling investigation following the discovery of one woman's body inside a suitcase. The episode will examine the death of 23 year old Marta Ligman, whose body was found floating in the Grand Union Canal at Little Venice, London, reports the Mirror. Little Venice is a tranquil waterway neighbourhood in West London, situated close to Paddington. The area is renowned for its vibrant houseboats and village-style character within the capital.
Yet one particular day took a dark twist when a passer-by made a horrifying find that sparked a harrowing investigation. According to the BBC, Tomasz Kocik was previously convicted of murdering Marta Ligman and received a life sentence. Footage reportedly captured him on CCTV hauling a suitcase from his property towards the canal.
However, her remains lay undiscovered for a further 10 days before a houseboat resident stumbled upon them. This evening's episode follows last week's deeply unsettling instalment, titled a Deadly Betrayal, which chronicled the murder of a mother who believed she had found her perfect partner.
Billed as a "collection of true crime documentaries that cover a range of real-life offences and notorious offenders," the series has been heralded as essential viewing for true crime enthusiasts, with tonight's episode promising to explore yet another harrowing case. Viewers have branded the series a "brutal watch" following previous episodes, with one social media user describing it as "absolutely heartbreaking", while another called it "horrendous to watch".
The total number of episodes remaining in this series has yet to be confirmed, though the programme will not broadcast on Tuesday 26 May, being replaced by Soccer Aid: More Than Just a Game at 9pm on ITV. The first series examined cases including those of serial killer Andrew Dawson and the killing of former EastEnders actress Gemma McCluskie. True Crime Presents: Murder at the Grand Canal aits tonight at 9pm on ITV.
