McIlroy's collapse at Pinehurst is still being talked about, with his caddie questioned by one former PGA Tour pro
Rory McIlroy's US Open collapse continues to be a hot topic of discussion, even as the Northern Irish golfer takes a break from the sport. The debate has been reignited by former PGA Tour professional Smylie Kaufman, who criticised McIlroy's performance at Pinehurst No.2 last month.
Chubby Chandler, McIlroy's former agent, weighed in on the debate, suggesting that McIlroy's stubbornness may have contributed to his downfall. Speaking to Mirror Sport, he said that once McIlroy had decided on a shot, there was no changing his mind - not even his caddie and close friend Harry Diamond could sway him.
"I felt like Harry Diamond really should have stepped in on the 15th hole," said Kaufman. "He did not have the right club in his hands. And I felt like Rory could have taken control of the championship on 15 if he just hits it in the middle of the green.
