Tens of thousands of civilians, most of them on foot and many carrying white flags, have fled northern Gaza along the Gaza Strip’s main north-south route.
After weeks of tensions, Harvard President Claudine Gay on Thursday announced steps the university is taking to combat antisemitism on its campus, including acknowledging the institution’s own history. Those efforts will include offering education and training for students, faculty, and staff on antisemitism both broadly and at Harvard , with an emphasis on the origins of some rhetoric that has been used on campus in recent weeks and its impact on Jewish community members.
Intense protests erupted on Harvard’s campus in the early days of the Israel-Gaza war, and — as at many colleges across the country — tensions remain high, with donors threatening to withhold money and students reporting threats. While emphasizing the foundational importance of free expression, Gay condemned the phrase “from the river to the sea,” noting that to many people it implies the eradication of Jews from Israel.
