On the face of it, there really isn't much of an upside for the current UK government after MPs described its response to attacks by cyber-espionage group APT31 as 'feeble, derisory and sadly insufficient.'
The mood won't have been lightened by the recent National Cyber Security Centre review which concluded the resilience of the country's critical national infrastructure is not where it should be. It's imperative that cybersecurity defences are sufficient to withstand attacks like ransomware and prevent data breaches amidst continued extortion from organized criminal gangs, which are sometimes backed by nation states. Proactive planning and the avoidance of reactive firefighting is one step forward, as is recognising compliance as an enabler rather than an obstacle, says Rubrik.
