While Gavin Newsom is out complaining about racism and bigotry in other states, it turns out that hate crimes have surged in supposedly tolerant California.
is out complaining about racism and bigotry in other states, it turns out that hate crimes have surged in supposedly tolerantas “crimes with reasonable evidence of motivation based on a victim’s race/ethnicity, gender, or other personal characteristics”) reached a low in 2014. The numbers had been slowly increasing since 2014, but they spiked in 2019, Newsom’s first term in office. Hate crimes in California have since doubled from 2019 to 2022, the duration of Newsom’s first term.
This cannot be dismissed as California being a haven of racist right-wingers, for the obvious reason of it being “progressive” California and because the hate crimes the state has seen are coming from liberal cities. Sacramento and Los Angeles sawfor anti-Asian hate crimes. These are progressive Democratic-run cities in a progressive Democratic-run state that has no Republicans serving in any statewide elected position.even further above the national average.
Newsom can’t turn California into a competent, functioning state, let alone the tolerant paradise he wants to present it as while trying to build his national profile. Newsom’s tenure has been a resounding failure in just about every way. No one in California or the rest of the country should be interested in what he has to say until he starts focusing on doing his current job instead of planning for the job he wants to chase in the future.
