Public can take a dockside canoe tour to learn about the canoe’s history, ancient wayfinding and navigation.
Aboard the Hokule’a, a traditional double hulled Polynesian voyaging canoe, Chairman Andrew Salas, of the Kizh Nation, receives a paddle after welcoming the voyagers to Marina Del Rey on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. The crew is on a four-year circumnavigation of the Pacific. docked at Marina Del Rey’s Chace Park. The stop is part of the canoe’s four-year Moananuiākea Voyage and circumnavigation of the Pacific Ocean.
The double-hulled canoe and its crew were escorted into the Marina by the Kizh Nation, the original Indian tribe of the greater Los Angeles and Orange County regions. The voyaging canoe will stop at 13650 Mindanao Way in Marina Del Rey until Oct. 30. Until then, guests will be offered dockside canoe tours where they will learn about the canoe’s history, ancient wayfinding and navigation.
