Hawaii’s emergency management agency has confirmed warning sirens on the island of Maui were silent as fires tore through communities. After at least 96 people have been killed, people are questioning why none of the 80 sirens were activated.

He called the area a war zone, adding: ‘Everything is burnt to the ground in Lahaina.
