NSW coach Darren Coleman has welcomed the signing of 21-year-old lock Miles Amatosero, while former Wallaby Isi Naisarani is aiming to win a long-term deal at NSW.

Former Wallabies starter Isi Naisarani has joined the Waratahs on a train-and-trial deal as part of a push by NSW to bolster their forward depth for 2024 which also sees the homecoming of a sought-after young Sydney lock, with Will Skelton-like dimensions, after several years in France.

Rugby Australia and NSW Rugby have been in dialogue with Amatosero since he left, and after agreeing earlier in the year to return home to chase his Wallabies dream, the signing of a rookie dubbed “mini-Skelton’ was officially announced last week. “He’s a kid who played Top 14 at 18, and he was throwing his body around. I feel he is going to be good for us, and its something I have been searching for, trying to find a big specialist tighthead lock. He is a Sydney boy and he is Aussie qualified, so it was a no-brainer.”Coleman said Naisarani had joined the Waratahs on a six-week pre-season deal, to offer the chance for the 11-cap Wallaby back-rower to earn a full contract for next season.

The Waratahs have also signed two props in former Brumby Tom Ross, and ex-Saracens, Brive and La Rochelle loosehead Hayden Thompson-Stringer; an Englishman who used to play for Manly Marlins. “I was kept abreast of it from the CEO and the board but they were strategical and tactical decisions made well above my head,” Coleman said.
