A health expert has warned supermarket shoppers to avoid buying apples in bags, as they could have been stored in warehouses for up to 14 months in an oxygen-free environment

A health expert has issued a warning to those doing their grocery shopping, highlighting a surprising fact about apples that shoppers ought to be cautious of. Steve Bennett , known for his consumer tips and healthy living advocacy on TikTok, shocked his audience with a recent video.

He continued: "And if you can, even better still, get organic. If you can't get organic, do wash them because they are on the government's dirty dozen list." Others joined in with their own handling practices, with one TikTok user noting: "I always wash them with Fairy," but appreciated the tip adding, "But thanks for the point. I will buy them individually." Meanwhile, another individual questioned the quality of today's produce: "Is this why apples don't taste of anything anymore?"
