The NHS and Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council have confirmed the project has been delayed
An ambitious proposal to convert a cotton magnate’s home into a 21st century health hub for Blackburn has been put on ice because of inflation. Historic Griffin Lodge had been a frequent target for arsonists and vandals since it was vacated 16 years ago by the North West Museum Service.
The three surgeries are all located in former houses which are now deemed unsuitable for modern-day healthcare needs, with poor disabled access and difficult layouts. Claire Richardson, Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board’s director of health and care integration for Blackburn with Darwen, said: “The Griffin Lodge health hub is an exciting project and will be hugely beneficial to the West Blackburn community and wider area. The facility will provide a high quality environment, bringing primary care and wider community health services together at the heart of the community with the aim of improving the experience of care for our patients.
