Campaigning parents have spoken to and were 'really impressed' with the minister
The Health Secretary has pledged to visit Nottingham where he will speak to families affected by the ongoing maternity scandal, campaigning parents have said. Jack and Sarah Hawkins, whose baby Harriet died after a catalogue of hospital failings in 2016, met with Wes Streeting on Monday, December 9.
More than 2,000 families are now part of the independent inquiry, which is being chaired by expert midwife Donna Ockenden. Mr and Mrs Hawkins met virtually with Mr Streeting, who was also joined by other families who had helped expose maternity scandals across the country. “We’ve been in the situation before where people have thought it’s all okay in Nottingham." Mr Streeting then committed "eye-to-eye" to a meeting with bereaved Nottingham parents.
“We got the impression he thought it was very important. The reason we want him to come to Nottingham is because it’s a live investigation and he will learn from people who are going through the failures in care and all the other failures that go along with that.
