The unexplained deaths are being investigated by the council
Pet owners have been left heartbroken and residents are pointing fingers as the mystery surrounding a spate of cat deaths on a Nottinghamshire estate continues. Mansfield District Council is investigating the unexplained deaths of five cats off the Bellamy Estate over the past month.
"Whether something has been dug up or the ground has been treated with something? Jasper lived a third of his life on the field," the 57-year-old said. Theresa Williams, a residents who lives a few doors down, fears something "really sadistic" has been going on. She said she found a dead cat on the field herself.
"It's just really sad and horrible. It's so dark to think there's somebody around that doing this and it sounds like more than one person. It's scary. The 42-year-old, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "People on the estate are spreading more rumours without evidence or fact-checking but not taking responsibility. It's really frustrating. It could potentially cause more issues, it's dangerous.
The resident said her eight-year-old cat's disappearance was out of character. "We still don't know what's happened. She's a very skittish cat and doesn't tend to really leave the house and if she does she says near the garden," she said.
