It’s the end of an era Brenda Blethyn OBE has quit her role as the lead of ITV drama Vera, it’s been announced. The legendary actress has played the titular role of DCI Vera Stanhope since series 1, which premiered in 2011. The 78-year-old has decided that it’s time for her to stand down, as the show commences filming its 14th and final series. In a statement, Brenda said: ‘Working on Vera has been a joy from beginning to end and I’m sad to be saying Cheerio.
