'There is less noise, less mess, less washing, less everything'
A bereaved father says he is left heartbroken every time he watches Netflix following the tragic death of his 10-year-old son.
Charlie had only taken a few steps onto the road when he was hit by Harkins' 23-plate Ford Kuga, and was "thrown forward by the force of the collision". Charlie was rushed to Alder Hey Children's Hospital's intensive care unit, but his injuries were deemed "un-survivable", and he was pronounced dead at 5.40am the next day.
Merseyside Police investigators concluded that the car involved in the fatal collision was travelling at 51mph, and that young Charlie was on the road for less than a second before the impact. The driver's reaction time to such an "unexpected event" is typically "ordinarily 1.2 to 2.6 seconds". This includes leaving his quilt pulled back and his teddy bears and pyjamas on his bed, just as they were last spring. She expressed: "The last 12 months have been a horrendous shock with the cruel loss of my gorgeous darling little boy. Charlie was clever, bright, funny and loving."
"The truth is I will never get over Charlie's death. I know every parent says their child is special, but Charlie truly was. I feel his presence around me, and I truly feel that he comes back to see me." "He recognises that the sentence he must now begin to serve is a sentence that will come to an end. He will be released. There will be no release for the victim, Charlie, and his family."
