A tragic car park crash in Tenby has claimed the life of six-month-old Sophia Kelemen. Her father, Alex, describes the incident as a 'horror movie' and struggles to explain the loss to their five-year-old son. Family friend Flaviu Naghi has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
A heartbroken father described the death of his six-month-old daughter in a car park crash as a 'horror movie'. Sophia Kelemen died after her pram was struck by a Nissan Qashqai driven by a family friend on the ground floor of a multi-storey car park in Tenby , Pembrokeshire. Her parents, Alex and Betty, were packing to head back to their home in Leigh, Greater Manchester, following a New Year holiday.
The baby was taken to hospital with a broken pelvis and a brain bleed, but sadly died the following day surrounded by her family. Alex, a lorry driver, said: 'Just before we got to the car, the horror movie started. It's hard to know and to think about what happened.' He added: 'It's been horrific to see our little daughter being in that bed and go through all those procedures.' Sophia's death has been particularly difficult for their five-year-old son, Lucas, who doesn't understand his sister is gone. Alex explained: 'He's been asking about his little sister every day since it happened. The biggest pain I've had was explaining to him that God loved his sister more than we did and God gave Sophia a brand-new set of wings so that she could fly over him and protect him. There are things I don't know how to explain to him. He's our only son now and he's the most important for us.' The family, originally from Romania, hope to repatriate Sophia so she can be laid to rest there. A fundraising page has been set up to help with the costs. Alex said: 'She's always going to live in my heart. I know she's going to be watching me every day.' An inquest into Sophia's death is due to open on Tuesday. Family friend Flaviu Naghi has been charged with causing her death by dangerous driving, driving without a licence or insurance. He was also arrested on suspicion of drink and drug driving.
