Heatwaves are likely to descend on parts of the UK ending weeks of wet weather
Following a period of seemingly cooler conditions, the alert will come into force tomorrow morning and will remain in place until Thursday afternoon, with some areas warned of significant pressure on local healthcare services due to the heat.The UKHSA warning stated that there is an “increase in risk of mortality amongst vulnerable individuals” particularly those above the age of 65 and added that there is a high risk of “increased potential for indoor environments to become very warm”.
Mr Esslick said: “UV levels are going to be high and the sun will be very intense. Wear protection like sun cream, stay hydrated and try to get some shade in the midday sun. People sensitive to the sun should take particular precautions.” While the average temperature may have been higher, the Met Office said there was 32 per cent more rainfall than average in England and Wales. This makes it the fifth wettest on record in England and eighth wettest for Wales.
