Rip currents are the number one killer along the Gulf Coast, far exceeding any other weather-related hazard. Please be cautious at the beach this weekend! A coastal flood advisory has also been issued for parts of the central Gulf Coast. Coastal flooding may occur due to higher than normal tides and wave run-up. Areas that typically experience coastal flooding should be monitored.Isolated morning showers will give way to scattered, then numerous showers and storms this evening. Rain chances will be highest in the late afternoon and evening over inland areas.
Before any rain, we will have to deal with hot temperatures today. Highs are forecast to be in the upper 80s and low 90s, with heat index values possibly reaching 110 degrees. A heat advisory has been issued. Stay hydrated and take breaks in the shade if you are spending time outside.The typical summertime pattern will continue through the weekend. Afternoon showers and storms are likely on Saturday and Sunday. Highs will be in the upper 80s and low 90s, with heat indices in the triple digits.
