The weather over much of the United States will be as hot as a firecracker, but there will be some areas where sunshine will be interrupted by clouds, showers and thunderstorms.Wyatt Werneth of the American Lifeguard Association offers tips on how to stay safe from rip currents for people planning to hit the beaches this summer.

For example, temperatures are forecast to reach the upper 90s F in Atlanta, where the average high is 90. The heat will nose farther to the north in the Eastern states with highs well into the 90s forecast for the Interstate 95 corridor of the Northeast. Cities that may not only be at risk for one thunderstorm but perhaps a couple of showers and thunderstorms that could interfere with outdoor plans include: Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, Des Moines, Iowa, and Kansas City, Missouri. Locally severe thunderstorms are possible in Oklahoma City, Pittsburgh and Little Rock, Arkansas, at some point in the afternoon and evening.In most cases, thunderstorms only last an hour or so.
