A potentially dangerous heat wave is moving through the Bay Area right now and is expected to last through at least Wednesday, July 10. Here are live updates on temperatures, closures and more.Evacuation orders have been issued for residents of Lotus Street in Antioch due to a vegetation fire, Contra Costa fire officials said late Thursday night.Daytime parades and festivities packed the streets around the East Bay.
But Captain Chris Toler with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District says, in addition, closing poplar hiking trails and parks also may reduce the number of possible calls they get to help rescue hikers who get dehydrated. He adds that there are also some other big challenges fire crews face this week.
Some busy streets and popular parks throughout the East Bay are closed due to the extreme heat and threat of illegal fireworks. That includes Grizzly Peak, with its sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay, and popular spot to watch fireworks.Parks closed Tuesday by the East Bay Regional Park District will remain closed during this week's increased temperatures and extreme fire danger.
