ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The island of Kodiak has been doused by heavy rains over the last 48 hours. Over 5 inches of precipitation has resulted in landslides, damage to a home on E. Hillside Drive and flooding near rivers and streams. The flood advisory for Kodiak City will be in effect through Saturday morning. A blocking pattern holds an atmospheric river over the island. The entirety of Kodiak Island is under a flood watch.
High pressure has brought a series of sunny days to southeast Alaska. The ridge will hold a little longer, so the region will bask in more April sunshine through mid-day Saturday. Klawock was a the hot spot for the state today, getting up to 68 degrees! The cold spot was Savoonga on Saint Lawrence Island. The community saw a temperature of 1 degree for their low.
Southcentral will see a break from the ongoing spring showers. The only areas more likely to get an occasional shower is Homer. Prince William Sound will see sunshine, as will the Matanuska and Susitna Valleys Friday.
