An amber weather warning has been issued for almost all of Yorkshire, except the coast, due to heavy snow expected to cause widespread disruption.

An amber weather warning is in place for almost all of Yorks hire, except the coast, from 9pm tonight until 11.59pm on Sunday, January 5. A yellow ice warning covers the coast and the rest of the region. The Met Office predicts snow will reach the south of the amber warning area later Saturday, spreading north across the rest of the area through Sunday morning.
Snow is expected to be persistent and heavy at times, with drifting in brisk easterly winds, especially over higher ground. 3-7cm of snow is predicted for much of the warning area, with 15-30cm above 150m and up to 40cm for ground above 300m. Snow may mix with rain in lower-lying areas, making estimations of snow depths more difficult. Travel is likely to be difficult, with power line icing as an additional concern
