Seven fire engines attended
Heineken has confirmed the cause of a gas leak at its Manchester brewery. A 50-metre cordon was put in place around the Denmark Road site, off Princess Road, yesterday afternoon while seven fire engines were called out to the scene.
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service stated that its crews stayed at the scene for more than two hours while firefighters stopped the leak. In an update issued this morning, Heineken confirmed that a valve on a carbon dioxide tank inside the brewery had failed. It has been described as an 'isolated incident'. A spokesperson at Heineken UK said: "There was an isolated incident at our Manchester site on May 22 when a valve on a CO2 tank failed."Nobody was injured. In line with our incident response protocols, the fire brigade attended and we thank them for their swift response.”
A spokesperson for GMFRS said yesterday: “At around 1.45pm today seven fire engines from Salford, Manchester Central, Bury, Gorton, Withington, Hollins and Rochdale fire stations alongside the air unit were called to reports of a suspected gas leak at a commercial premises on Denmark Road, Manchester.
"Firefighters established a cordon to make the surrounding area safe and worked with site staff to quickly isolate and stop the leak. Crews were in attendance for two and a half hours.”
