The NSW blaze torched an area the size of Sydney Harbour in just 24 hours.
Early assessments of the destruction by the Coolagolite fire began on Wednesday afternoon, with the NSW Rural Fire Service quickly counting the loss of three houses.Scattered showers and cooler weather have helped bring the fire risk level down after scorching conditions a day earlier.
The sight of smoke also triggered mental health concerns for affected locals nearly four years on from the devastating Black Summer bushfires. “We’re in October and we’ve found that we’re facing midsummer bushfire conditions in some parts of NSW — it points to a hellish three months,” he said.
