For Zachry vice president Robert Thrailkill, the Monarch San Antonio hotel at Hemisfair is worth the wait.
The Monarch San Antonio hotel, now under construction at Hemisfair , is one of the most anticipated hotels in the Alamo City’s history. It has been in the works at least since 2017, when the City Council approved a deal with the local developer Zachry Hospitality to redevelop the northwest portion of the site of the HemisFair ’68 — the 1968 world’s fair — into a mixed-use neighborhood, including a hotel.
Five years later than what it sold City Hall, Zachry begins construction of hotel at Hemisfair downtown “We have designed this hotel to be able to attract a high-end customer,” Thrailkill said. “This can’t be a traditional hotel. That’s why we went with the Monarch. We didn’t call it the Hilton or the Marriott or whatever brand you want to call it.
