Stephen Hendry claims Mark Selby would defeat Ronnie O’Sullivan in a head-to-head match if both were playing at their absolute best.
Stephen Hendry believes Mark Selby would defeat Ronnie O’Sullivan if both players were at their peak. Hendry, a seven-time World Champion himself, acknowledges O’Sullivan’s status as the greatest snooker player ever, but argues Selby’s exceptional safety game and scoring ability would give him the edge. Hendry highlights Selby’s performance at the British Open this year, where he defeated Mark Allen in the semi-final and John Higgins in the final.
He states that when Selby plays at his best, he is “unplayable” and would win more matches against O’Sullivan than the other way around. Hendry also notes that he expected Selby to surpass his record of seven World Championship titles when Selby won his fourth in 2021. At 41 years old, Selby is still a formidable force in snooker and remains a top contender for the World Championship
