The shocking 1996 murder case is at the centre of a new Netflix true crime drama, releasing next month
Netflix's latest upcoming true crime drama, from the creators of the hit 2022 Jeffrey Dahmer series, releases next month. From Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story examines the shocking case of two brothers who murdered their parents in the 90s.
Monsters will look back at the events of August 20, 1989, and what happened leading up to the brutal murders of Kitty and Jose Menendez. The couple were shot multiple times and killed by their boys, who were 18 and 21 at the time. Ultimately, Erik and Lyle were found guilty on two counts of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, receiving life sentences without the possibility of parole.
The pair have both had their share of romance, despite being behind bars. Lyle married model Anna Eriksson on July 2, 1996, in a ceremony officiated by judge, with his attorney and aunt in attendance. Their marriage ended in divorce on April 1, 2001, after Eriksson discovered Lyle's alleged infidelity.
