Tributes have been paid tonight to Belfast journalist Henry McDonald after his death over the weekend following a battle with cancer.

The 57-year-old, a life-long passionate supporter of Cliftonville and Everton, also wrote two novels – The Swinging Detective and Two Souls - as well as several books on The Troubles and Northern Ireland's paramilitaries.Paying tribute to the journalist, former Irish Senator Mairia Cahill said: "I'm sorry to hear that Henry McDonald has died. His work stands as a testimony to his interest in NI, in people, and in explaining it all to a wider audience.
