The pandas are a part of an agreement with the China Wildlife Conservation Association, which loaned the pandas to the U.S. in exchange for a $1 million annual fee that will go toward “animal research and conservation efforts in China.” Qing Bao is a two-year-old female born on Sept. 21, 2021 at the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, to her father Qing Qing and mother Jia Mei., a female panda born at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in 2013 who is now living in China, and was born on Aug. 4, 2021 at the CCRCP.will once again use its Boeing 777-Freighter, known as the “FedEx Panda Express,” and serve as the National Zoo’s shipping partner, transporting Bao Li and Qing Bao from China to D.C.

Though their public debut date hasn’t been announced, the pandas have to quarantine for at least 30 days upon arrival as part of a routine practice to prevent the spread of new disease, and then they’ll settle into their new habitat for a few weeks before the public can visit them, according to the National Zoo’s announcement.are native to China, and the country houses most of the world’s captive pandas.
