So, a royal statement was made that Camilla would become ‘Princess Consort’, not Queen, if and when Charles ascended the throne. But times have changed since then.
“The late Queen's statement about wishing Camilla to be 'Queen Consort' was to help end the suggestion that Camilla would only be Princess Consort when Charles succeeded, something Clarence House touted at the time of their marriage,” adds Victoria. “Such a move would have required parliamentary intervention to change the law, since morganatic marriage does not exist in the UK.
