The funds will be spent on managing and buying properties to house people at risk of homelessness.

A council is to spend about £5m buying and managing properties to house people at risk of homelessness over the next 18 months.

The council said the funds would help it to meet the demand for social housing and would help reduce the amount spent on temporary accommodation. However the local authority said it was faced with “an ever increasing demand and relatively limited supply” as the costs of accommodation "continued to rise" and could be up to £120 per night.
