PC Sally Nicol, a police officer in Scotland, narrowly escaped death while rescuing 10 motorists stranded by a raging storm. She was caught in a series of avalanche-like mudslides, saving her colleague's life in the process. Despite being airlifted to safety, Sally continued her shift, helping another 20 people stuck in their vehicles due to a river flood.

But survival mode kicked in and I managed to free myself, get to my feet and back up the embankment.” Sally said: “I thought, ‘We are stranded here and are all going to get submerged’. Her boss Sergeant Brian Simpson, who nominated her for an individual bravery award, praised her courage in the face of extreme danger.
