'Hero' pub landlord stabbed to death after 'confronting man who was barred in beer garden'
TRIBUTES have been paid to a 'hero' pub landlord who was stabbed to death after confronting a man who’d been barred from the premises.
Witnesses said the landlord had confronted a man in the pub’s beer garden who was believed to have been barred from the premises. Neil James Mercer wrote on Facebook: “Awful and deeply sad news on passing today of Christian Thornton, a top man, my dad taught Chris many moons ago on being a landlord when we where in Albion, been brought up in pubs for over 20 years I cant believe this today, trying to keep bad people out of pubs and protecting the nice people of the our town has cost him his life!
