A heroic Scot who volunteered as a medic on the frontline in Ukraine was killed alongside his pal after conflict broke out. Jordan Maclachlan, from Ardnamurchan in the Highlands, died in the warzone on Friday after Russian troops advanced their position. The 26-year-old's body has not yet been retrieved. Jordan's devastated uncle, Robert Mews, told how his family 'couldn't be more proud' of his humanitarian and infantry efforts.
Writing on Facebook, Robert said: 'With permission from my family I would like to say the following... At the start of the year we were given devastating news about my nephew. 'As some of you are aware he was volunteering in the war in Ukraine. He has been there for the past few years and has made such a difference. 'This man is probably the most selfless man I know and am proud to be his uncle. We were told a few days ago that he was killed in action after a Russian advance took their position. 'He told us many times he was proud to be helping out there. Either in his humanitarian efforts or most recently in an infantry role. He made so many friends out there and all have said what an amazing human being he was. 'He was unfortunately killed with his friend beside him. And never thought to leave his position. We have also been told because of the nature of the battle the body has not been retrieved. 'We are hoping that this will take place if the local forces can retake the ground. We couldn’t be more proud of this young man and ask you to please take a moment to think of him. Sleep well pal and thank you for your service.' Jordan volunteered to help the Ukrainian army after Russia's invasion in February 2022. His family confirmed his untimely death with the BBC on Monday night. In a statement, they told the broadcaster: 'Jordan always believed that he was making a difference and we are all so proud of him helping others.
