The Walt Disney Company famously limited its film releases to create scarcity by placing them 'in the vault'. In the 1980s and 1990s, it released its classic films on VHS for a limited time before making them unavailable again for a decade. Disney claimed this strategy was to control the market and keep the films fresh for new audiences. This led to certain Walt Disney Classics VHS movies becoming highly sought-after collectables after being re-secured in 'the vault'. These coveted items are known as the 'Black Diamond' collection due to a distinctive black diamond-shaped 'Classics' logo found on the case spine and the tape's introductory segment. The animated feature set ranges from 1984 to 1994, with 'Robin Hood' debuting the series and 'The Fox and the Hound' closing it, reports the Express. The Black Diamond tapes, which initially featured older animated features from before the mid-1970s, have seen a surge in value following the success of The Little Mermaid, leading to more recent releases being added from 1990. With Christmas on the horizon, it's worth rummaging through your old VHS collection as Ebay listings for these Disney Classics tapes are reaching thousands of pounds. A new and sealed copy of 101 Dalmations is currently listed at an eye-watering £15,000, while The Little Mermaid can be found with price tags of £6,200, £5,500, and £3,500. Aladdin also joins the high-value list with a new and sealed copy offered at £5,065
