High consumption of ultra-processed food products increases the risk of developing multimorbidity, a combination of cancer and cardiometabolic diseases like heart disease, stroke, diabetes and kidney problem, the Healthy Philippines Alliance (HPA) warned. The HPA, a network of civil society organizations working to prevent and control noncommunicable diseases, urged the public to refrain from eating too much unhealthy foods to protect the heart.
Ultra-processed food products are those that contain preservatives, emulsifiers, and artificial sweeteners, colors and flavors. These include breakfast cereals, soft drinks, ice cream, hotdog, corned beef, meatloaf, sausages and instant noodles. 'One way of showing extra love and care for our hearts is to cut down our consumption of UPPs to save ourselves from cardiovascular diseases.
