Emily's father Thomas comes from Dublin
A girl of eight who was believed to have been killed by Hamas during the October 7 attack could be alive.
However, our sister title the IrishStar.com has reported the Israeli Defense Forces told the family they now believe there is a "high possibility" Emily is being held hostage in Gaza. Emily’s half-sister Natalie told the Times of Israel: "We were told that she had been murdered. We were in mourning."Natalie said: "On 31 October, they told us that it was highly likely that she had been abducted."
The Department of Foreign Affairs said in a statement on Twitter: “The Department of Foreign Affairs is aware of the case of Emily Hand and is providing consular assistance to her family. We will not be commenting further at this time.” Tanaiste Micheal Martin insisted Israeli authorities and officials in Egypt were helping Irish diplomats in their efforts to get the citizens out.
