DAVID MUNDEE Headland captured the Ariton Purple Cats Tournament title on Saturday, going undefeated, including a championship win over Rehobeth.Earlier in the tournament, Headland defeated Houston County 25-8, 25-12, Luverne 25-17, 25-14 and Ariton 19-25, 25-21, 15-7 in pool play. The Rams then beat Dale County 25-10, 25-14 in bracket play to advance to the finals.
After finishing pool play, the Rebels beat Houston Academy in bracket play, 12-25, 25-21, 15-12 and followed with a 23-25, 25-20, 15-11 semifinal win over G.W. Long before losing to Headland in the tournament championship 25-23, 17-25, 17-15. It was Rehobeth’s seventh match of the day. For the tournament, Anna Claire Free earned 33 kills, five aces, 30 digs and two blocks and Kaylie Joseph earned 31 kills, five aces and two blocks. Also for G.W. Long, Kaylie Foster delivered 16 kills and 17 aces, Brooklyn Head amassed 15 kills, five aces and seven digs and Sawyer Hughes distributed 100 assists and also had seven kills, 10 digs and two blocks.
Ariton goes 2-2: Ariton went 2-2 at its tournament, reaching bracket play before being eliminated by G.W. Long. For the tournament, Carreline Spears earned 39 kills, four aces, four blocks and 20 digs and Madie Wilson delivered 17 aces, 57 assists and 15 digs to lead Opp. Ada Blackstock amassed 10 kills, four blocks and five digs. CB Johnson finished with 15 kills and Braleigh Nall and Chloe Bentley both had six kills with Nall also earning six blocks and Bentley five digs. Crislyn Birge delivered 46 digs.
For Enterprise, Sydney Neuwin delivered 33 assists, seven kills, five blocks and nine digs, while Delcy Harrison had 10 kills, seven aces and eight digs and Beth Ann Wadsworth had seven aces and 14 digs.Northside Methodist won all five of its matches in winning the 18th Annual Providence Christian Junior Varsity Tournament on Saturday.
Rehobeth finishes as runner-up: Rehobeth finished as the Providence Christian Junior Varsity Tournament runner-up, finishing with a 4-1 record. In pool play, the Eagles defeated Ashford 25-6, 25-11, lost to Rehobeth 25-23, 25-21 and beat Carroll 25-16, 25-16. They then lost in the semifinals to eventual champion Northside Methodist 25-12, 25-13.
