Drivers are being reminded to make an all-important check before setting off
Not only does adhering to the code, which is essentially the law of the road, help keep all road users safe, but failing to do so could see drivers hit with harsh penalties, and even taken to court and sent to prison.
According to Rule 100 of the Highway Code, the driver "must ensure that all children under 14 years of age in cars, vans and other goods vehicles wear seat belts or sit in an approved child restraint where required". Again there are exceptions if the correct child restraint is not available in a licensed taxi, or for reasons of "unexpected necessity over a short distance", or if "two occupied restraints prevent fitment of a third".
